Professional Alterations: Success is in the Details!

Today I finished replacing the zipper on a reversible jacket. As you can see, each side of the jacket has a horizontal line that needs to be matched. On the light side it is the navy ribbon.
These lines need to be pinned to the zipper tape first, then the rest of the jacket will be attached to the zipper.

On the reverse side, I matched the yellow piping, then pinned the zipper (already attached to the light blue side at this point )to the navy fabric. The rest of the jacket front should fall into place, though you have to pay attention to the bottom and top ends of the opening.

If you are new to this, try basting the zipper in place. That way the fabric won't shift or stretch as it goes under the presser foot of your machine.
